GitHub Copilot
GitHub coding assistant in the editor and on GitHub, from completions to pull requests.
GitHub's Copilot plans page, last checked October 28, 2026, lists Free at $0 with 2,000 completions a month, entry-level models, and limited chat and agent use. Pro is $10/month. Pro+ is $39/month. Max is $100/month. Business and Enterprise plans are also listed. Chat and agent use draws GitHub AI Credits (1 credit = $0.01). Code completions and next edit suggestions do not use credits and are unlimited on paid plans. The allowance resets monthly. Copilot works in VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, Neovim, Eclipse, Zed, the CLI, a desktop app, github.com, and mobile. A cloud agent can take an issue and open a pull request, and it can delegate to third-party agents such as Claude and Codex (preview). On individual plans (Free, Pro, and Pro+), GitHub may use interaction data to train models unless you opt out in settings. The plan page lists models from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google (including Gemini 4 Argon), xAI, Microsoft, and Kimi K3.
What's new: Copilot Fusion (Oct 28, 2026)
GitHub made Copilot Fusion generally available on October 28, 2026, on all Copilot plans in VS Code, the GitHub Copilot app, Copilot CLI, and JetBrains IDEs. More clients are coming. You pick Copilot Fusion in the model picker, then an effort level: Standard for everyday coding, High for harder tasks, or Max for the most demanding work. It may use one model, a cascade (a cheap draft, then escalate if needed), or a critique loop (one model drafts, another reviews). You pay for each model it uses at that model's standard rate. For a limited time, paid plans get 30% off model costs when using Fusion. The JetBrains post says 30% for the first 30 days. Fusion replaces the Auto model option and is rolling out gradually. Admins can limit which models it uses and set it as the default. Local model routing is an opt-in experimental preview in Copilot CLI, the Copilot app, and VS Code. Routing decisions still happen in the cloud, so it is not offline. GitHub's claim: Fusion Max scored 60 on the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index. Last checked October 29, 2026.
