Hob

Free, MIT-licensed desktop app that works on your local files with open-weight models, and it can run fully offline.

Hob is a free, MIT-licensed desktop app for Mac, Windows, and Linux. It works on your local files in the way the Claude and ChatGPT desktop apps do, and it runs open-weight models on your own computer via llama.cpp. The models it runs now are Gemma 4 and gpt-oss. On first install it picks a model for your hardware. It includes sandboxed Python for ad hoc tools, built-in web search through SearXNG that can be turned off, MCP support, image recognition, and local file read and write. It works fully offline. Local models are weaker than frontier cloud models. The model download is large. One Hacker News user reported 18 GB.
