Survival LLM
Free, open source offline AI assistant plus emergency library that runs fully on your own computer and cites its sources.
Survival LLM runs entirely on your computer. You set it up online once, then it needs no internet. There is no account and no tracking. The library includes about 930,000 Wikipedia articles, medical references, FEMA and CDC guidance, survival manuals, wikiHow, and iFixit guides. Every answer lists the articles used. It picks a local model by your RAM, for example IBM Granite 4.2 8B for machines with 16 to 31 GB, up to NVIDIA Nemotron 3.5 Super on Macs with 128 GB or more. Platforms are Apple Silicon Macs (M1 or later) on macOS 14 or later, and 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. The library download is 9 GB (19 GB installed), or 1.3 GB without Wikipedia and iFixit. The site warns that small models make more mistakes, so check the sources. It was on the Hacker News front page on October 27, 2026, with 400+ points. Versions 0.3.1 to 0.3.4 were released that day. Last checked October 28, 2026.
